History

Dr. Michael Campbell opened Optical Solutions, LLC in 1988 at the Plaza at Shelter Cove location. In 1992 he opened his second location at the Island Medical Plaza. With hard work, patient satisfaction, and customer loyalty, Optical Solutions was chosen as Small Business of the Year by the Hilton Head Chamber of Commerce in 1999. 

 

 

In 2005 Dr. Campbell opened his new, state-of-the-art facility in Hospital Center Commons.  Adjacent to the Hilton head hospital, this office includes our Full-Service Lab, a 600sq. foot optical dispensary, and the island's only Lasik surgery suite!

Dr. Campbell has been in private practice for 24 years, all spent on Hilton Head and in the Bluffton area.  Dr. Campbell graduated from Indiana University and then went on to receive his Doctorate at Indiana University School of Optometry.  While working on his doctorate he performed an externship in Indianapolis, Indiana and Fort Jackson, South Carolina.  Dr. Campbell and his wife Maureen fell in love with the Low Country and opened their first office in the Plaza at Shelter Cove in 1988.  They have nurtured its growth over the past 24 years.  They have since founded 2 more locations, on at the Hospital Center Commons (near the Hilton Head Hospital) which is their state of the art facility.  It features a full service lens laboratory, over 1,000 frames to select from, full Optometry Practice and a state of the art Lasik Center.  Their 3rd location is the newest and was just founded in 2011.  It is located in Bluffton, 6 Promenade Place, Suite 1001 (next to Captain Woody's).

Dr. Campbell has been involved with the Lions Club, St. Francis Catholic Church, The Island Rec Center, and Dixie Youth Baseball.  His passion for baseball lead him to coach all three of his boys throughout their younger years on Hilton Head, earning a National Championship in the Southeast in 2001.  Dr. Campbell is certified through the National Board of Examiners in Optometry and the South Carolina Board of Examiners in Optometry.  He is a member of the American Optometric Association, and has been nominated and appointed to serve on the South Carolina Board of Optometry.  He is also an active member of the Low Country Optometric Society.  Dr. Campbell and his wife Maureen have been married for 25 years and are blessed to have 4 children.  As a family they enjoy spending time together, playing tennis, baseball, water activities, and reminding themselves of how fortunate they are to be able to live in such a wonderful place.

Dr. James D. Kondor, O.D.

Dr. Kondor has joined our practice after having a successful practice of his own on Hilton Head for 20 years. We welcome his expertise in the fitting of contacts and refraction, as well as all other aspects of Optometry and look forward to taking care of all his patients' eye care needs.

Dr. Sean Pitale, O.D.

Dr. Pitale joined our practice in late 2008.  As a graduate of Inter-American University in Puerto Rico, he is the only optometrist in the area fluent in Spanish.  Dr. Pitale did his undergraduate studies at San Diego State.  As the current President of the local Optometric Society, Dr. Pitale is licensed in both South and North Carolina.  Dr. Pitale is also a board member of the local Italian-American Association on Hilton Head Island.  As a married father of 2 young boys, Dr. Pitale stays busy helping coach his sons in local athletics.  He works predominately out of our Shelter Cove location in Mid-Island.

Dr. J.C. Parker, O.D.

Dr. Parker is an Ohioan by birth and graduated from Ohio State University in 2000. Dr. Parker and his wife Susan moved to Hilton Head Island in august of that year to start his practice here.

Dr. Tara Engstrom, O.D.

Dr. Tara Engstrom joined our practice in July 2011.  She is originally from Western New York and graduated with a Bachelor’s degree in Biology from SUNY Fredonia.  She went on to complete Optometry school at Nova Southeastern University in Fort Lauderdale, Florida.  Before graduating Dr. Engstrom completed rotations through the Columbia VA and Clayton Eye Center outside of Atlanta.  Dr. Engstrom is licensed to practice full-scope Optometry by the Optometric Board of South Carolina.  She is a member of the local Chamber of Commerce, WAHHI and also volunteers with the local Special Olympics.  As the newest addition to the practice, Dr. Engstrom will be working primarily at the new up and coming Bluffton location. After recently moving to this area, Dr. Engstrom is excited to continue the tradition of providing thorough and personal eye care to the low country. 

Ms. Marjory L. Stockwell, Optician

Marjory, a dually licensed optician in contacts and spectacles, has been with our practice since 1999. Marjory has over 20yrs of experience in the optical field, and as general manager she oversees all aspects of our practice, keeping customer service high on her list of priorities. Marjory is the mother, and grandmother of 3.

Mr. Jason K. Stockwell, ABO

Jason is Lab Manager for our full surfacing lab located at 10 Hospital Center Common. He is originally from the Boston, Massachusetts area, having moved here in 2003 from Memphis, Tn.
